In the final session of the International Conference on the Global Fight against Terrorism, head of the exclusive panels of the conference presented a report about the agendas discussed in these panels.

According to ISNA reporter, in the first panel dubbed as “the role of regional and international organizations in the fight against terrorism” was held under the chairmanship of Muhammad Faisal. The people in attendance declared that terrorism was an international challenge and that a global solution has to be sought for it.

Faisal further said that all countries should tackle terrorism and should take it in all its forms and shapes especially its causes into consideration. The subject of ‘fight against occupation’ should also be considered a form of terrorism. He said that it was necessary that the legal efforts to fight occupation should not be considered as an act of terror because it has been recognized as legal according to the international law.

He added, “In this panel, emphasis was laid on all kinds of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Mutual cooperation against terrorism was stressed among the countries and it was underscored that coordinated efforts should be made to encounter terrorism. Various aspects of the regional and international decisions should be studied and taken into consideration. Also, we appealed all countries to further their cooperation in punishing the terrorists.”

Faisal said, “In this panel, great importance was attached to national identity and we condemned any kind terrorist acts against the nations or religions. It was stressed that any kind of attempts to provoke the religions against one another is condemned. State terrorism is also condemned by the members and it was emphasized that appropriate measures should be taken to encounter such actions.”

Following him Ayatollah Mahdi Hadavi Tehrani presented an account of the second panel under the title “The Divine Religions on Combat against Terrorism”.

He said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran was praised for holding this conference and it was termed as an effort towards promoting peaceful coexistence. Also, the panel welcomed the decision to establish a permanent secretariat for the conference in order to help facilitate the continuation of such conferences in future.

The panel reiterated the fact that all the divine religion are the harbingers of peace for humanity and that they have no connection with terrorism. No religion allows self-destruction or the killing of innocent people.”

Ayatollah Hadavi added that the followers of divine religions have a history of peaceful coexistence all over the world.  The subject of Zionism was put forth in the panel and it was stressed that Zionism can never represent Judaism. The Zionists are opposed to all the religions and they are using religion to reach their own political ends. The occupation of Palestine is a terrorist act by the Zionists.

The panel drew the attention to the fact that the Zionist regime has, since its establishment, carried out terrorist activities and sponsored state terrorism. Thus it was concluded that this regime is the source of international terrorism. In addition, it was underscored that the Zionist domination of mass media is aimed at justifying the Zionists’ state terrorism.

Hadavi said that ascribing terrorism to Islam is a part of an overall efforts going on against Islam. The panel appealed all countries to try to give an end to such anti-Islamic activities and help facilitate peaceful coexistence among the followers of all divine religions. The panel stressed that unlawful activities on the part of certain people should not be generalized and used as a pretext to establish connection between religions and terrorism. It appealed that distortion of the image of religions especially Islam be avoided.

He added that the panel expressed deep concern over desecration of religious values and sanctities and also blasphemous opinions which result in violence and enmity among nations.[1]
