Ayatollah Hadavi Tehrani said that the contents of some TV series have no coherence with the religious concepts. He termed wandering souls as the new problem of the present-day TV series. He said that the fictions which are shown about the realms before and after death are neither scientific nor religious.

Speaking to Mehr reporter, Ayatollah Hadavi Tehrani regretted over what he termed as the weak content structure of the TV drama series that are broadcast from the national television in the month of Ramadhan. The TV series are prepared with a positive motivation but unfortunately we see some weak points in the contents of all of these series. This is due, largely, to the fact that the national television does not seek the view of educational, social, psychological, legal and religious experts. Thus, the series are made on the basis of some very lay imaginations.

He emphasized, “These series are developed and produced under the influence of some Western especially Hollywood products. Despite the fact that some renowned and highly experienced actors are involved in producing the series, they are very weak not only in terms of the content but also from an artistic point of view.”

Ayatollah Hadavi Tehrani termed ‘wandering souls’ as yet another problem with which the television of the Islamic Republic of Iran is faced with. “The national TV series are replete with stories about spirits, ghosts, devils and angels. This has to be looked at critically.”

Referring to a part of Ramadhan series in which the intimate relationship of a girl and boy’s souls had been illustrated, the president of the Porch of Wisdom Institute described it as very offensive. “It has been shown in some parts of this series that the boy who had been a practicing and faithful individual in his worldly life observed all boundaries and limits in his relationship with the girl whom he was in love with. Now the boy’s soul can easily have an intimate relationship with the girl. That was how the TV series had illustrated their relationship and such a vision indicates that those in charge of producing the drama series are not benefitting rom religious sources.”

“The fictions which are shown about the world before and after death are neither scientific nor religious. Had the producers of such series studied the religious sources or sought some experts’ advice, the contents presented in these series would have definitely been better and far more accurate. They would not produce films for the month of Ramadhan by reenacting Hollywood dramas,” he noted.

Ayatollah Hadavi Tehrani, the lecturer of the Islamic Seminary of Qom further said, “If a person is a practicing and faithful human being in his daily and normal life, there is no doubt that his soul would be more adherent and abiding than his body. Late Shaykh Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi, the founder of the Islamic Seminary of Qom is reported to have said, ‘If I come across a woman in my dream also, I would cast down my eye.’ When a morally and religiously educated individual lives adhering to religious values in this worldly life, definitely he is more careful not to commit any offense in the world of dreams or in the intermediate world and so forth.”

Ayatollah Hadavi Tehrani warned about the undesirable educational consequences and negative impacts which such dramas may leave on the religious doctrines of society. “The things which these scenes inculcate in society are not in agreement with religious values as they break the boundaries and limits in society. There is no doubt that the producers of these TV dramas have had positive motives in producing such series but unfortunately the products are not very much consistent with their motives. The reason lies more or less in the fact that the dramas are weak in terms of contents and artistic features. [1]
